Application	The speed of the external coagulation pathway depends on the activity of the factors involved in this pathway, including factor 2 (prothrombin), factor 5 (proxalerin), factor 7 (proconortin), factor 10 (Stewart) and factor 1 (fibrinogen) in the presence of calcium ions. This is the basis of the PT test by Quick method, a conventional test to measure the activity of factors of the extrinsic pathway of coagulation. This test measures the clotting time of plasma after adding a source of tissue factor (thromboplastin) and calcium ions. The speed or time of coagulation clot formation in this test depends on the concentration/activity of coagulation factors II, V, VII, X. Oral anticoagulants prolong PT by reducing the activity of coagulation factors dependent on vitamin K (such as II, V, VII, X, protein C and protein S).
